Sowa Vintage Market

July 18th, 2010 by Keri

Today on this hot Sunday I had the pleasure of going into Boston to visit a few friends in the South Ends new Sowa Vintage Market. Located in the trendy, funky South End this new flea market hosts a variety of old finds to soothe the soul. You can score anything here from Old world European elegant antiques to retro funky industrial finds. Creators Stephanie Pernice and John Warren run the show each weekend on Sundays 10-4, May-Oct. John actually re-purposes furniture and creates masterpieces. I always marvel at his talent.

Sowa is definitely a new cool place on my list of flea markets. It’s good to see motivated and creative people doing what they love. Kuddo’s to you Steph and John! For more info and pics you can go to www.sowavintagemarket.com also located in my links section.

On another note I did manage to get out to Brimfield to shop last Tues. Apparently many people asked where we  where and why we were not set up. Simple answer I can’t deal with 100 degree heat and sitting outside all week in it. LOL!! It was nice to hear that we were missed! While I was out there I took so many great shots of some great booths. Much to my dismay when I got home I accidentally deleted them all from my camera. I still want to give a shout out to Peg and John from French Vanilla they had an amazing display and I so wanted to show you all their true talent. Peg was such a sweetie too! I also stumbled on a booth called Antique Warrior. I guess these guys are trying to start up another picking show in Brimfield similar to American Pickers. So be on the lookout for that, It should be cool.

In the meantime I signed up for a small local show in Concord MA in November at a nearby church. We are still debating on doing the Sept Brimfield show and with only a few weeks until the show it’s more likely we won’t be doing it. I will keep you all posted. Enjoy the pics I took of the SoWa market. If you get a chance go and check it out you won’t be sorry! Try and stay cool in this crazy heat!

Delinquent

Ok so I know I have been a little delinquent from blogging lately. Quite frankly after Brimfield I ran out of steam. I really think I just need a little vacation. My husband has been working nonstop as well so it leaves little downtime for our family. Hopefully in July we will get up to Maine, which also by the way has great antiquing! By then I should have some more photos of my space in the shop and some of my summer antiquing ventures in Maine.

Today I did attend the Grafton Antiques show. I bought a few things and managed to take a few pictures of some great spaces that caught my eye. Here are some of the shots. Enjoy the rest of the weekend and I will try and be around  a little more!

Brimfield in a nutshell

May 16th, 2010 by Keri

 brim-5.jpg

After being at the Brimfield show for a week I am exited to be home and back with my baby. The show was amazing! We couldn’t have asked for anything more. Everyone who came into the booth was so friendly and had so many nice comments about our setup. Thanks to our friends and family who came out to support us during the week it meant alot! The biggest thanks go to my family and friends who took care of my baby while I was gone. Without them I couldn’t have done the show. I also want to thank Amy my friend and partner from Thistlebees. I had so much fun with her all week even in the freezing cold weather she still managed to put a smile on her face! I need a small break but am looking forward to next Mays show!!

I have a ton of pictures to show you of our booth. So hear goes!! They are in no particular order. There are a few things that didn’t sell at the show so if you see anything in the pictures that you would like to purchase please feel free to email me for a price. As always happy hunting and enjoy the summer of antiquing!

Brimfield in bloom

May 8th, 2010 by Keri

Well I had every intention of doing a series of posts about Brimfield. As you can clearly see I only managed to do a few. Tomorrow Amy and I will pack up the van and finally clear out my dining room that has become my storage room for the last two months. I am so exited for you all to see the great things we have. One of my favorites is a galvanized drawer that I filled up with succulents!! That is only the tip of the iceberg of some of the great treasures we will have.

Come on down to Shelton field area B57, Tues-Sat and see for yourself! Pictures to follow after the show. I must go and get some much needed rest I have a long week ahead of me. Happy hunting!!

Head above the water

April 25th, 2010 by Keri

 hartducklingunderwater5xw1.jpg

When I say that I have been busy that is a complete understatement! Between getting ready for Brimfield and trying to take care of my son and plan his first birthday I am completely exhausted. I have been falling asleep every night on the  couch by 10:00. For me that is really early!! Gone are the days of staying up till 4:00 in the morning painting and getting last minute projects done.

The last time I did the Brimfield show I had all the time in the world to prepare. Since becoming a mom, as many of you know it’s a constant challenge to get even daily tasks done let alone try to work a part or full time job. I do have a babysitter once a week as well as family members who watch my son. In total they watch him about 10 hrs a week. In those 10 hrs I frantically paint, sand, decoupage, hot glue, plant, reupholster, tag items, do inventory, maybe eat lunch if I am lucky! I do at times feel like I am barely keeping my head above water. At night is usually the time I do laundry, clean, catch up on overloaded emails and if I am lucky sit down and try to write a blog post.

Tonight is one of those nights that I have a small dose of extra energy to write something. Must have been that tea I ordered today that turned into a coffee! Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining since I am the one who decided to take on all of these tasks. In fact If I wasn’t so busy I probably would be bored out of my mind! I always love a creative challenge and with Brimfield only a few weeks away I have got my work cut out for me. I do hope that some of you will come out to the show if you get a chance. The last show I did I was lucky enough to meet a few people who had been following my blog. It’s also great to meet other fellow bloggers! To reiterate I will be on Shelton field in area B-57 Tues through Sat. I will try to start posting a little more. I had hoped to write more about Brimfield but that may just have to wait until after the show. I am  also praying to the rain gods for good weather during the show. Until then I will keep plugging away at my numerous projects and am hoping to put on a spectacular show! Happy hunting!

Altered art in Concord

April 4th, 2010 by Keri

The other day while walking up to Nesting on Main in Concord I stumbled upon a new shop called Beth Hylan Designs. Beth specializes in crafting old ephemera into pieces of art. Her work it truly awe inspiring! If you would like to see for yourself her shop is located in Concord Ma at 44 Main St. If you don’t live in the area I did manage to get some photos of her lovely little shop. Thanks Beth for letting me take some shots!

You’re looking kind of dirty

March 26th, 2010 by Keri

 brim.jpg

” Your looking kind of dirty”. Ok get your mind out of the gutter!! That is what the guy in Home Depot said to me yesterday when I came into the store in my painting clothes. I responded to him that I was working on numerous projects and that I didn’t think painting and stripping furniture in my ball gown would be the appropriate attire to work in. He kind of gave a blank stare and said “Ok” Guess he didn’t get my humor!! To his point I do look  like I have just fallen into a paint can when I work on furniture. I am not the neatest painter but when the my projects are finished they usually come out looking pretty nice. I included a couple shots of my painting clothes just for a laugh!

Here is  a little preview of some of the many items that I have for Brimfield and some pictures of a few of the projects I am working on. To see more of what I have come on over to Shelton field in area B-57. I will be posting more pics the closer we get to the show! Enjoy the weekend!

Happy St. Patricks Day

March 17th, 2010 by Keri

st-patricks-day-21.jpg

I hope everyone is enjoying this fine St. Patricks Day. It is a beautiful day to celebrate being Irish, or just a good excuse to go and have a pint or two and listen to some great tunes. If you live in the central Mass area my brother and friends will be playing in a session over at John Stones Inn in Ashland Mass. They will start at 4:00 and play until late tonight. My brother has a blog as well called baconworks.com He is in my links section under Music. he is one of the most talented musicians I know and its always alot of fun to listen to him play! Enjoy the day!
