Recently I read a post on The French Garden House blog regarding where the direction of her blog was going. She wondered how many people really read it and what did they like or dislike about her posts. Sometimes when she posts she gets either little or no comments.
It got me thinking about my blog. First and foremost I love having a blog. It has truly allowed me to show my talents and has a been a great creative outlet for me. It has also been a way to meet other nice people that share in the same interests as me. Not only do I love having a blog but I love reading other blogs. It is so cool to see so many creative people posting such cool and interesting things about design, antiques or photography. It inspires me to be a better blogger!
I guess I have some of the same concerns as Lidy. Now and again I post something and think wow I can’t wait to see the comments. Then sometimes days will go by and there is nothing. So then I think well maybe it just wasn’t that interesting of a story or maybe my pictures were a little blurry. On other posts I will then get a bunch of comments. Don’t get me wrong, I truly appreciate and value all the comments I do get. In fact every day I rush to my site to see if anyone has left a comment because I love reading them so much. Call it just being lucky but never have I had someone leave a really nasty comment aside from the typical spam that we all have to deal with!! I guess I just wonder if there is anything I can to to spark some more interest in the blog to spice it up a bit?
Alot of blogs I read post things every day. There are a couple that I read faithfully and look forward to reading. Do you all enjoy that as well? I must admit I would love to post once a day but it’s tough with a baby to find the time as well as trying to come up with cool and interesting posts rather than just putting any old thing out there. Some weeks I have so much to say or photograph then other weeks I struggle to find my creativity.
I also try to post new items that I have brought into Thoreauly Antiques. I do wonder if any of you out there who live in the area check to see the new things and if you do what would you like to see more of from me? I could start a wish list of items. It would be fun to hunt for you on more of an individual basis. Like most of you I am always trying to figure out what people want in there homes. Forgive me if I am rambling, I tend to do that!!
I do hope that my readers will give me some advice. I value your opinions so much and please feel free to leave as many comments as you wish! Thanks so much and happy hunting. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!

I so understand everything you feel. It is fun to write a blog and fun to read others. It is hard to post regularly, especially with kids at home. It is fun to get comments, and it makes the reciprocity of it all so much more fun - to comment and to get comments! Wish I had words of wisdom, but sometimes it just helps to know someone else feels the same way. Keep it up - I love reading about your antique business!

Keri - just want you to know that I enjoy your blog and because of that I ventured down to Concord a couple of weeks ago to find your shop! I loved it! I think what caught my eye was the wonderful buttons you bought there :-)… I too bought some buttons, one of those French chilren’s songsheets (wish I had bought another so I could have a pair!), and a few other bits and pieces. The lady who was manning the booth sent me over to another charming place (Nest upstairs? something “upstairs” LOL!) I also had a nice cup of coffee in the cafe downstairs. I did ask for you and hoped to have a chance to say “hello” but will definitely try to get back sometime soon. You have a great booth!
:-)… but I think I’ll try to make it out there this May.
I have been enjoying reading all of the wonderful blogs out there and have thought about doing one - just haven’t put the “pedal to the metal” so to speak. I finally got a website up last year but must confess I haven’t done much to it lately.
I love reading all of the wonderful blogs out there and often wish I lived in Texas, Minn. or the great Northwest! They have such great shows out there. Of course, we do have Brimfield but must confess I haven’t been out there in a few years. I just retired last summer so the “old legs” can’t do as much walking as they used to
I currently rent space myself in Kingston, NH, just 5 mins. away (I live in Plaistow) and have been hunting for some “antique bloggers” from New England. Yours was the first I found last year.
Well, how’s this for a “comment”?? Feels like I wrote a bit! Keep up the good work, and congratulations on the new baby. (When I first read you, you were expecting).
Take care -

Dear Keri: I live in CT and thoroughly enjoy your blog! I actually check your blog every day to see what’s new. You obviously have great skill as a photographer. Every photo that you take is a feast for the eyes! The buttons that you photographed with their warm, glowing tones were beautiful! My sister & I have a small space in a shop here in CT and enjoy it thoroughly. The hunt is so much fun! Do you have any helpful hints as to storing and organizing the “finds” that we all come through our front doors with? I hope I can get up to MA to visit “Thoreauly” one of these days.

Keri,
I think many people read blogs, but few comment. I have a tracker on my blog, and it tells me how many people visit each day, where they came from etc. I know that if I am busy and I can’t leave comments, my readership goes down a bit. The more you comment, and join in weekly events, the more people will comment. You should think about joining a weekly event besides writing your lovely posts.
Once, I thought the things you are thinking, and then I realized, I wasn’t blogging because I wanted comments, I wasn’t blogging because I wanted to be popular. I was blogging because I love it, and I love to share. Soon I was receiving lots of comments. But even on those days when no one does comment, I know that my joy is in writing, creating and expressing myself. Your blog is beautiful, I wouldn’t change a thing. Think about joining a weekly event and you’ll be getting loads of comments and new readers too.

Keri,
Actually it was more about what my readers like to read, and how I could change it to a more business blog without losing all those sweet friends I have made over the years! You can put a counter on the bottom of your blog and you will see how many people read your blog every day, week etc. The one I use is http://www.sitemeter.com/, it’s free and will give you a good indication.
I think lots of people read blogs without leaving a comment, that wasn’t really my question. I generally try to leave a comment for people, but I know that lots of people don’t! I love your blog, and wouldn’t change a thing about it, just wish I had more time to read and visit. xo Lidy

I agree with Karen (above). I LOVE blogging, and LOVE getting comments. But, don’t judge your blog’s success by comments or traffic! Only a fraction of readers leave comments (like 1-2. % for me). XOX

I am excited about the new Flea Market finds mag too!! Thanks for all the great posts, xxj

Hi Keri, I know exactly what you mean….I spend time wondering about the same thing. But, then when I consider how many great blogs posts I read and don’t comment, I accept that just because there aren’t a lot of comments doesn’t mean that people aren’t reading or enjoying the post. All that stated, may I say that I have been reading your blog for a while and enjoy it thoroughly. Your topics are great and your writing style is warm and genuine. Keep it up! Sorry for the long post….I tend to ramble too! = )~LaurieAnna

Keri,
I found your blog a while back, remembered “Thoreauly Antiques” and then lost the blog…does that ever happen to you?? Say it is not just post-menopausal memory loss on my part…please. Anyway, today is the day. My friend Martha and I will open the sunroof on the Corolla, hit 128 and spend the day in Concord. I haven’t been there in ages and I am so looking forward to it. See ya (or someone in the shop) later!
