Interior Design Therapy
While generally my style is either French Country or Shabby Chic, I was recently hired to redo a commercial space in a more contemporary style. For me I had to think out of the box and get creative with some innovative ideas. Initially this commercial space was colorless and lifeless. The client wanted something colorful and hip with a contemporary edge to help represent what his company stood for. I feel that I accomplished this with flying colors!! No pun intended.
The project included refinishing four major rooms. The waiting room, kitchen, bathroom and conference room. We ended up having to gut the bath and kitchen and start from scratch. We then ripped up all of the rugs and repainting each room. Fortunately this company had the access to many vendors including tile vendors and lighting. This helped to cut some of their cost, while continuing to maintain a high end look. I will take you through the rooms.
The first space is the waiting room.
The leather seats are very comfortable and affordable. They were a Boston Interior find. The coffee table, accent light and end table are from there as well. From a little help from HomeGoods and Target I found these great accessories. I needed to come up with a solution for a wall that didn’t exist so I found these great sliding panels at Ikea. I think they are so cool, but painful to install. We had to hand cut the fabric along with using many tiny screws to assemble it all together. I was happy with the end result.
The second space was the kitchen. We gutted it completely and installed new cobalt blue cabinets from Ikea. We then put up a lunch counter and added some cool accent blue dome lights. The picture above the counter came from HomeGoods and the blue modern chairs I ordered online from Target. I was having a hard time finding some funky modern artwork for above the sink so instead I worked all night and painted my own version of modern art on canvas. I actually like the way it came out.
A Keri original piece of art!!
The third space was the bathroom which we also completely gutted. This room I had the most fun with because I got to use marble flooring and ordered this really cool vanity and square sink. It’s hard to tell in the pictures but the granite was absolutely beautiful with hints of grey and terra cotta in it. I just loved it. I chose a warm terra cotta wall color to accent the granite. The large cabinet I purchased from the Restoration Hardware outlet for quite a steal. The accessories again are from Target and Home Goods. I loved this bathroom so much that I wished it was in my house!!
The final space was the upstairs conference room. The client wanted something very simple but bright. So we painted the walls a nice bright blue and ordered the black chairs from Boston Interior. The pictures I bought from Jordans Furniture. They weighed a ton so we had to mount them with molly screws.
I had so much fun with this project because it was my first hired job. Ultimately I would like to go into residential design and combine my talents of color matching and incorporating antiques into the mix. For me this was such a great opportunity for me to showcase my talents. It was great for my portfolio. Eventually I will post some pictures of my house so that you can see what my own personal style is. It does seem as though my style is continually evolving. It seems to change the more I travel throughout the world. Alot of my style has been influenced by traveling to Europe. The history along with the great architecture inspires me every time I travel somewhere new. Well as usual it’s late and my eyes are getting blurry!! Goodnight until tomorrow!!

The design of these commercial spaces is harmonious and warm.
