Brimfield Rush
The rush has begun. It has been a busy couple of weeks here trying to get ready for the Brimfield antique show. I have been tagging, painting, buying, and tagging some more. Just to reiterate we will be at Brimfield Sept 2-4 set up at Shelton field B-52.
The first time I ever attended the Brimfield show I think I was about 26. I had just moved into my first apartment and needed some furniture. I had heard from some friends about how massively big Brimfield was, but like alot of things it’s something that you need to see for yourself to understand just how big it really is. Spanning for about two miles, roughly 4000 dealers from all over the world show up for this annual event. Needless to say I was not only amazed by the size of the show but fell in love with all of the beautiful antiques. I had never seen so much furniture, art, and collectibles in my life. Although my budget was small I still managed to find the perfect mission accent table for $65.00. I knew it needed some work but I was up for the challenge. The funny thing is I didn’t actually refinish it until about eight years later.
There is a book called Brimfield Rush by Bob Wyss that came out a few years ago that really catches the essence and subculture of the Brimfield show. The book chronicles the lives of two struggling art dealers trying to make a living along with highlights of Brimfield scores and losses. If you haven’t had a chance to attend the show this book will give you plenty of insight to Brimfields history as well as adding some humor into the mix. On that note if you do get the chance to come to the show I am sure you will have a blast looking to find your next big score!!
