My Home Design
As I promised I said that I would post a bunch of pictures of my home. I wanted to show you what kind of style I have at home. I will take you through them……….
First lets start with the kitchen. Originally it was very seventies with orange counter-tops, horrible linoleum flooring, and awful flower wallpaper. I really wanted to go with a Tuscan theme while also incorporating some french influences.
As you can see I really like old architectural fragments. To me they are like beautiful sculptures.
This is actually some french soap that I purchased at Comptoir De Famille. The picture came out cool because you can see the reflection of it in the granite back-splash.
This little rack is also from there. This store is my new favorite place to shop. They sell repro french farmhouse furniture and accessories. Their linens are to die for!!
This coat rack is another find from there. Doesn’t it look old?
I use this wooden cabinet to store tea and sugar packets. I love the funky knobs on it. It was a Pier 1 find a few years ago.
To add to the french feel I purchased this french oak wine barrel from a vineyard in Rhode Island. I was inspired to get it when I had a wine party at my house last year. The coolest thing about the wine barrel is the top of it. I love the black numbers as well as the France stamp. So cool!! The old wooden chair came from the neighborhood yard sale that I had last year. It is actually an old wooden shop chair. I liked it because it looked french.
My youngest cat had to sneak into this shot. She is so vain!! But she matches the kitchen.
Here is a shot of the kitchen looking into the dining-room. My older cat wanted to get in on the action as well!! He also matches my decor.
The second set of pictures is from my dining-room. This room I wanted to be very french looking as well.
We purchased our table and chairs from Ethan Allen. I picked out the fabric on the chairs and that seemed to set the theme.
The chandelier I purchased from Domain. They are another french inspired home decor store. As you can see I like to mix things up a little bit with using antiques and new items.
This piece was passed down to me from my grandparents. At one time my great grandfather owned a paint store in Brooklyn NY. I believe that this piece came from there. Unfortunately I had to paint it because it was in pretty rough shape. I couldn’t strip it because part of the veneer was peeling off. So instead I gave it a face-lift by painting it white. I then found some french inspired stencils and added them after. The knobs were also a new addition.
This is one of my favorite pieces of brown and white transfer-ware. It looks great with the hydrangeas in it.
This mission styled piece was actually the first piece of furniture that I ever purchased at the Brimfield antiques show. I was so exited when I bought it because I had just moved into my first apartment. For about six years it stayed a dark stained color. I then got bored with it and stripped it and then put a faux finish on the top. At the time I had a hard time finding old hardware so I purchased some new knobs at Home Depot. The tapestry is made in France and is from about the 1900’s. I love the colors in it and the scene that it depicts.
The large picture of France is new. It is from Domain and is a linen tapestry on canvas. I liked it because it was so different, and on sale!!!
This old piece I bought at a yard sale from a very old estate in Sudbury. I just love the tarnished silver-plate.
I recently purchased these repro mercury glass votive candle holders. Aren’t they pretty?
The heart was a gift. It is made out of vintage fabric and is placed on an old glass candle stick holder.
Vintage pearl buttons……..I love them all grouped together on display.
My favorite wine decanter, along with my headpiece from when I got married. I had to display it somewhere because of it’s beauty along with the sentimental value that it holds.
This old chair I bought at a rummage sale and repainted and reupholstered in a paisley fabric to accent my other chairs. The repro Degas painting I got at Homegoods. My curtains are silk dupioni, they are so lavish and go well with the brown wall color. I actually think they would make a great dress. Do you agree?
This old oriental silk framed piece I found at an estate sale in Dover. I live for that color green.
This old 1920’s child’s chalkboard is actually going into the shop in Concord to be sold. I was debating on keeping it but I simply don’t have the space for it. If I had a large kitchen I would put it in there and use it for a message board. The rotating lessons in it still work after all these years, and hold two original erasers. Another great thing about it is that it folds up for easy storage.
The third room is my bathroom. There is that green again!! I have mixed in some old transfer-ware china along with some new tea stained pictures of France. The curtain valance I find to be very classy but simple.
The fourth room is my living room. I chose two different colors in here. There is nothing like a great accent wall. Here I have set up a vignette of hydrangeas, some more repro mercury glass votives, and my grandmothers pink jewelry box.
This piece of furniture I purchased at another estate sale for very little money. It was even darker than it is now, until I stripped it to try and lighten it up. The mirror came along with it. It looks very french to me.
This trunk was another yard sale find from a sweet elderly woman’s house. Currently I store all of my cd’s in it. The chair is a repro that I bought in Sudbury a few years ago.
Here is a taste of some books that educate and inspire me!!
The mosaic I actually made in high school art class. I made the tiles out of glaze and then put them in a kiln to harden them. It just happen to match my living room decor.
The next room is the guest room. I tried to give it a cottage feel. Here is an old Beleek pitcher resting on a vintage blue tray.
The little old rocking chair I got at an auction in Maine.
This bureau was actually in my room growing up. It used to be painted yellow. It didn’t fit my theme so I painted it white. My favorite part about it is the mirror.
This is the second bedroom. I actually am in the process of redoing it once I pick out a paint color and duvet cover.
The green chair was another rummage sale find in Wayland. At the present time I have more new than old in this room, but I will soon be changing it.
The last room is our second tv/sun-room. I got inspired to redo it in a Hawaiian theme after we had traveled there. The vine wall votive holders I bought at Crate and Barrel. The wicker set is from Target. I love that store because they are so affordable and stylish.
Here is another old victorian architectural piece that I recently found. At one time is was attached to a dresser. The wood was very dark so I painted it and sanded the edges to give it some depth.
The last set of pictures is from a fall wine party we hosted. I tried to get creative and find wine and cheese related accessories.
I actually went to Whole Foods and they gave me some free cheese containers. I stained them to give them a warm look. I then went to the liquor store and asked if they had any empty wine crates. They ended up giving me three of them, so I stained them too and added a cool assembly of empty wine bottles with lights and faux grapes.
I was so inspired by the fall colors so I went back to Whole Foods and picked out a variety of different flowers and arranged them.
Here I added wine corks into the bottom of the container.
In this set up I bought some faux grape vines and strung lights through them. It turned out pretty cool.
Well that is all for now. I hope that you have enjoyed your personal tour of my home!!

Thank you for inviting me to visit your site! Your home looks so warm and inviting - and I love the wine and cheese crates ideas. The color of your kitchen walls is almost the same color of my fiance’s sunroom - my favorite room. And I like the little chalk board and the French soap, of course! Thank you for sharing and keep on inspiring others as I am sure you do.
Love,
Elizabeth

Just happened upon your blog just in time to see photos of your home - love it! I’m curious where you got the silk, smocked curtain panels in your dining room? They are just beautiful.
Thanks so much-
