Most of us that are are collectors of antiques have some sort of favorite heirloom that was passed on to us from a beloved family member or perhaps a close friend. For me it is a silver spoon that was my grandmothers parents. I also have a few other pieces of furniture that were either my grandparents or treasured Christmas ornaments that were my mothers as a child.

What is my point to all of this you ask? Well in about seven more months I will then pass on to my first child some things I have aquired over the years.  Things that are special to me, and that I hope will be special to my child. I also will try to pass on my love for all things old. I figure if I start to surround my child with antiques then maybe by the process of osmosis this kid will love them as much as I do. Although I  haven’t found out the sex of my child yet, I am already planning in my mind some of the vintage influences I would like to incorporate into the nursery. The thing that instantly came to my mind was mercury glass. Now I realize that you shouldn’t put to many breakable things around children, but I figure if they are up high enough then their won’t be any issue right!!

Last week  I was in one of my favorite antique shops and found this amazing pair of 1800’s mercury glass curtain tie backs. I only bought one because I only needed one, but here is a few pics of it. It is truly amazing with it’s flower motif on it. I  also have my eyes on some mercury glass baby birds to put up high on a shelf. The way I see it is it doesn’t matter if it is a boy or a girl because mercury glass goes with everything.

As the nursery progresses I will be sure to post more pics of my antique finds. The next item on my list to find  is and antique armoire. I don’t have a closet in that room so I need something for extra storage.

Enjoy the pics!!
