Armoire antics
After many painstaking hours of sanding, painting, gluing, and moving the armoire is finally finished and in it’s place. Needless to say it is not in it’s initial place of origin, but at least it is in working condition.
When I first started out on this armoire escapade we were originally going to use it in my future sons nursery. Much to my dismay it did not fit up our staircase due to the sheer beastlyness of the piece. My second idea was to call the movers and see if they could hoist it through our window. Yet again another failed idea due to the very expensive price they wanted to charge me to move the piece. In the end I decided to just use a smaller armoire that I already had in my dining room and put the new one in it’s place. I know a few of you told me not to paint the piece but I am not one who really loves mahogany and I still managed to keep the beautiful detail without covering it up to much. So here is the finished product!! What do you all think? I am pleased with the way it came out, but more than anything relived that it is finally done!!
On Saturday I went out to try and find some new antique shops. A couple other dealer friends of mine had recommended going to New Bedford Ma. They said there were a ton of shops down there. I only managed to get to three of them but I was not disappointed. All of them were large multi dealer shops in old mills. I wish I had brought my camera. The last one was called Acushnet Antiques and had a fabulous array of unique antiques. This place was great because they didn’t have the typical same old stuff that you wind up seeing in most shops. Every space was set up in a decorative manner that made you want to linger for hours. There was alot of cool industrial baskets and cabinets, cool large letters, and oodles of beautiful garden decor…..just up my alley. I managed to buy two things including a great old mercury glass elephant for the nursery and a vintage clock face for the shop. If I would have had and endless cash flow I could have easily spent alot more money in there but I am still waiting for that big lottery win!! Here some more pictures of my new finds. I will also be bringing in a fabulous bird bath into the shop on Tues, so come on in and check it out!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend and happy hunting!!

New Bedford is a great spot for shopping.
Were you able to hit up the salvage shop while there? (I haven’t been, but i hear it’s pretty good.)

Thanks so much for the comment on my site. I would love to switch links-but I have no idea how to do it! (I am a bit of a tech-phobe.)
The salvage store is two blocks from Antiques on the Cove. I believe their website is NEDSalvage.com

I voted don’t paint, but it came out beautifully! I love that you kept the motif at the top in its natural state. It really sets off the piece. Congrats on finishihg the project!@

Hey Keri,
I live in Plainville MA ( next to Foxboro) and have been wondering about New Bedford shops too. Guess I will have to make a pilgrimage down there sometime. I love the way your armoire came out.
